Christ Nagar English High School started in 1976 as an unaided recognized English Medium School under the Kerala State Board of Education has grown into a group of schools in twenty five years, consisting of Christ Nagar English High School(Kerala State Board of Education), Christ Nagar Higher Secondary School(ICSE) and Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School(CBSE). The Christ Nagar Group of Schools is owned and managed by the Fathers of the religious congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate(CMI) at Christ Hall, the CMI Monastery at Kavdiar, Trivandrum. The Schools have classes from the pre-primary section (Kindergarton) to standard XII. All the schools are co-edcucational.

Location

Christ Nagar English High School and Christ Nagar Hr. Sec. School are situated at Kavdiar in the heart of Trivandrum city. Christ Nagar Sr. Sec. School is situated on a beautifull hillock facing the Arabian sea, at Chavarapuram, Thiruvallam, in the subrub of Trivandrum

Achievements

Christ Nagar Group of Schools have consistently maintained an outstanding record in academic and co-curricular achievements. The State School has secured cent percent pass, more than three State Ranks and the largest number of distinctions for a single school in the s5ate every year at the public examinations for the last fifteen years. The fact that more than 75% of the SSLC students and more than 90% of the ISC students who completed their with us have entered professional courses through entrance exams and that they have completed or are completing their courses successfully, is a creditable achievement for the schools. In the District and state youth festivals and other interschool competitions the students of Christ Nagar Group of Schools have creditable records

The perennial response to the age old aspiration of the Rishis of our Arsha Bharata expressed in the Upanishadic prayer, " to lead us from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from mortality to immortality" foundin the words of Jesus Christ, "Iam the Way, the Truth and the Life" is the motto of the school. The attainment of true knowledge makes one enlightened so that one can lead oneself and others in the path of truth to immortal life.

Objectives

As a CMI educational institution, the school regards education as integral formation of the human person for the fulfilment of his/her individual and social responsibilities.

The school aims at forming leaders who are intellectually competent, spiritually mature, morally upright, psychologically integrated, physically healthy and socially acceptable, who are open to growth and will champion the cause of justice, love, truth and peace.

The school alsso aims at creating a just and human society where dignity of the human person is respected, where unjust social structures are challenged, where our cultural heritage of ahimsa, religious harmony and national integration are upheld, where the poor and the downtrodden are specially taken care of.

The school is open to all students irrespective of caste and creed; they are accepted and cherished as they are and are helped to grow in their cultural, social and religious tradition. However, being an institution established by, and for, a minority community based on religion, the school gives preference to christian in admission and appointment and has a conern for the faith – formation of the christian youth. The school expects students, parents and teachers to share the CMI vision of education and to co-operate with the school wholeheartedly.

Facilities

Library

We have a comparatively good school library with more than 20000 volumes of books and more than 15 standard periodicals, The Reference Section has a variety of standard encyclopedias, dictionaries and standard reference books on almost all topics at the school level.

There are two well-qualified librarians and three assistants as library staff, who are always ready to render any help to the users of the library. The library has also a Xerox machine for taking copies of any relevant article from the reference section of the library.

The library is fully computerized. There is also a leased line internet connection for the school and students are allowed to use the internet facility from 8.00 am to 8.00 p.m on any day.

School Bus

The school provides transportation facilities to students. The parents who wants to send their children to school by school bus should apply for it to the Principal at the beginning of the academic year.

The school bus facility or its discontinuance is not admissible for any part of a term. One month’s notice in writing shall be given for discontinuance of the bus facility.


Requests for change of boarding points shall be made in writing one month in advance. Nobody without a valid bus pass will be allowed to board the bus. Loss of the pass shall be reported promptly to the office.

Internet Club

The school has taken a leased line internet connection for 24hrs service o the students and their parents. Christ Nagar Internet club provides convenience to the students to browse the internet from 9.00 am to 9.00 p.m. All the students are members of the internet club; the parents of the students also can make use of the club card of their ward for browsing the internet with a nominal fee of Rs. 15/- per hour.

We have an interactive Web site for the school, where all the details regarding the progress of the study, discipline etc of the wards will be available for the parents.

Co-Curricular Activities

To Develop the varied interest and talents of the pupils we provide ample opportunities through several co-curricular activities. Students are given training in music, Painting and other arts forms. Besides formal coaching in music and art, they are given opportunity to get involved in artistic, cultural and social activities through various associations and clubs. Participation in one of the co-curricular activities is compulsory. In the continuous and comprehensive evaluation of the students the performance in one or two co-curricular activities will be graded and the marks will be entered in the certificate.

The Science Club

This is meant to create in our students increased interest in, and love for, the day-to-day scientific achievements of the modern world. This would help to take their curiosity to know more about the thrilling and marvellous contributions modern science has offered to humanity. Ultimately this would help the student to equip himself with the creative mind to eradicate poverty and misery form the face of the earth.

Literary Association


The Literary Association Holds weekly meetings. The class-teacher gives necessary guidance and direction to the students for conducting these meetings in the most fruitful way. The meetings are organised by the elected Secretary of Association, in consultation with the class-teacher.

The Social Service League

This League tries to inculate in minds of young ones their responsibility towards the neglected poor and a love for serving them in their needs.

Admissions

Students are admitted to the school at the beginning of every academic year. New admissions are made on the basis of the student’s performance in the school they studied last and also on the basis of thier performance in the entrance test.

As a rule new students are admitted to LKG, UKG, standard I and V.

Pupils seeking admission to LKG, UKG and Standard I for any academic year should register thier names before the end of December and to Standard V before the first week of the January of the previous academic year.

Admission to other standards may be given according to the availability of seats based on an entrance test in the last week of April or in the first week of May.
