A Profile:

SJCIT &MS is a self-financed professional college that offers specially developed course in the field of Information Technology, Bio Sciences and Management Studies. It is an offshoot of the St.Joseph’s Group of Institutions which was established in the year 1981.

Owned and managed by the Malankara Catholic Diocese of Thiruvalla, under its educational service wing, Corporate Educational Agency of the Catholic Diocese of Thiruvalla. It is a religious charitable society with, His excellency the bishop of Thiruvalla as President and Patron, under whose dynamic leadership a large number of schools, colleges, hospitals, hostels medical and paramedical institutions and research centers have been established throughout India in the past seventy years The immediate management of SJCIT &MS is with Fr.Cherian Ramanalil who is the founder Chairman of this group and made the group grow to his vision. It is his Commitment and visionary thinking that made the St.Joseph’s Group of Institutions  as they are today.  St.Joseph’s Group of Institutions is situated in the heart of Central Travancore at Mallappally, a serene and calm place with the beautiful nature surrounded by. Just 14 Kms away from Changanacherry and Thiruvalla on the MC Road, Kozhencherry on the Thiruvalla-Pathanamthitta Road, Pampady on the Kottayam- Kumali Road. 30 Kms from Kottayam and Pathanamthitta.

The college conducts MBA, MCA, M.Sc.Bio Informatics, M.Sc IT, M.Com Information System, B.Com Information System and B.Sc IT courses in collaboration with SMU, MAHE and Manipal IT education. All the courses are approved by UGC and this college is an approved and authorized study center of Sikkim Manippal University (SMU)of Health, Medical and Technological science.

  IMMEDIATE OBJECTIVES:

1.  To conduct the professional courses like , MCA, MBA, MSc IT ,MSc Bio-informatics and B.Sc IT in collaboration with SMU, MAHE and Manipal IT education with affiliation to Sikkim –Manipal University.

2.   To enhance the software development research center for providing hands on experience for the students of MCA , MSc IT, Bsc IT,  MSc BI , MBA B.Com IS and M.Com IS.

3. To establish satellite based network for the Kerala Institutions and other Institutions through S-Cube

4. To root in health care section so that the Bio-Informatics students will be benefited

5. To organize an entrepreneurial and enterprise development center where the students can convert their theoretical knowledge and job skills into marketable products.

6. To develop faculty, resource persons and advisory groups who could be teachers, mentors, counselors and guides for the St. Joseph’s Group.

7. To plan organize and establish any other facility requirement for the attainment of the mission.

8.  Inter college seminars, quiz and talent shows will be arranged.

9.  “Srammadhan days” will be organized in association with other NGOs.

10. Technical exhibition shall be arranged this year in a massive way.

To offer a healthy diversion from studies and to make students see the other aspects of life, various associations have been functioning in SJCIT & MS ever since its inception. Taking an active part in these co-curricular activities helps one get an intellectual and aesthetic experience besides training in organizational ability.

Centre for Education Beyond Curriculum

CEBC is a central body incorporating various associations / clubs covering the entire co-curricular and extra-curricular activities with the sole intention of identifying the true potential of the students. While each association is an independent one, they are encouraged to have a wider interaction with other associations making it beneficial to the entire student community.

 
FORMATION

Each association is headed by a staff co-ordinate who guide and motivate the students. A student executive committee is formed with students who have a good academic record. These students are actively involved in the functioning of the association.

Facilities:

Library  The college library has an excellent collection of  books and  journals on all relevant subjects. These volumes include books for required reading, reference works in all the fields and periodicals. The library also has a good collection of audio and video tapes and a photocopier for the use of faculty and students. The imposing main reading room in the library is an ideal setting for reading, reflection and serious study. Library works from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.   There is a good collection of books available in the field of Computer Software, Information Technology, Management Studies, Sociology, and Physics.

Computer Labs:

In the Campus there are three Computer Labs, arguably the best and certainly the most modern among the colleges in Kerala under Sikkim-Manipal University. The lab, which is at the first floor of the main block with 18 systems, is primarily meant for the post Graduate Information technology students. The computing facility of the lab is utilized for all administrative works of the college. The center offers diploma courses in computer in the morning and in the evening. LAB II is a well-equipped computer lab with the state-of-the art technology. This lab too has network facility, connecting the latest Intel microprocessor based computers. The lab has 14 Pentium II / III, based nodes each with 32 / 64 /128 MB RAM, 4 / 10/20 GB local hard disk, SVGA color monitors, connected to three Windows NT Servers (Pentium-III 128 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD) and one Linux Server.  Lab III is a research center  (Sanjose Software Solutions), that keeps the students to have a experience on live projects.  Laser Printers, Inkjet Printers, Digitizer, Scanner, Dot Matrix Printers and other peripherals are connected to the network

Internet Facility To integrate Information System Technology into the present curriculum, the college is one of the first educational institutions to boast its Internet connectivity through VSAT Internet line connecting its students to the world and beyond. The faculty and the students are encouraged and allowed to surf the net free of cost. Moreover, nodes are provided in the library for the students to send and receive E-mail.  

Career Guidance & Placement Assistance:  SJCIT & MS is one of the pioneering institutions that provide career guidance and placement assistance to the undergraduate and postgraduate students. The office is dedicated to help the students assess their career interest, aptitude and provides them with an opportunity to meet and be interviewed by some of the prestigious firms in the country. It periodically organizes mock interviews, workshops, seminars and group discussions on relevant topics. The library facility offered by the centre gives the students a wide variety of information on higher studies both in India and abroad and career opportunities in various organizations.   The Centre establishes close contact with industrial and business houses through regular newsletters, placement brochures and personal contacts.

Sports and Games The sports and games facilities on the campus make the students attain physical growth and sportsman spirit. Inter-collegiate matches and Sports Day give the students ample opportunities to develop their talent and skills.

Counseling Centre

 
The Counseling Centre helps all Christians in the holistic development of their personality by imparting right values and attributes, towards oneself and to the society at large. In contemporary technological society education becomes more and more a critical factor in career possibilities. Problems in educational plans and performance of many students affect their career development. The Counseling centre facilitates in the development of remedial systems for students whose study skills and other motivational factors have kept them away from achieving their true potential. Students can approach the counselor who handles every student with the utmost care and concern. The centre also concentrates on students who do not perform well in their exams and are irregular for the classes. These students along with their parents are called to the Centre for a meaningful discussion with the Counselor to sort out problems and find remedies.

Scholarship and Financial Aid:

 The college management is committed to identify all financial resources and make them available to the deserving students of all categories. The scholarships offered by the management are primarily aimed at promoting quality education among the students. Students of the final year degree with brilliant academic records, having secured first class in the university exams are eligible to apply for the Merit Scholarships. Special Financial aid is offered to the students of economically backward class, having a good academic record. Students who excel in sports, extra curricular and co-curricular activities are offered scholarships at different levels. The students who would like to avail any of these scholarships must have at least three references of the faculty.

Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc IT)

Objective of this course is to enable the students who have completed the 10+2 or equivalent to pursue a career in the field of information technology. Total duration of this course is three years (6 semesters).

  Semester 1 of the popularity of rapid application developers, students will be exposed to latest trends in programming. Eligibility is degree in any discipline or equivalent.

Master of science in Information Technology (M.Sc IT)

This course is designed in view of the popularity of rapid application developers, students will be exposed to latest trends in programming. Eligibility is degree in any discipline or equivalent.
