Sir, My daughter was studying in University of Exeter for Post graduation and passed out on Ms Engineering Management. She is now in Dubai, and she is having a visit visa valid for two years issued in Abu Dhabi. She would like to work in UK and stay there.. what are the best possible ways to keep her in UK.. please advise..

Dear Balan,

Thanks for your Enquiry.

2 Year visit visa to UK does not mean that she can stay in the UK for 2 years. As per the immigration rules she must not stay in the UK for over 180 days in any one year period.

A visit visa holder is not allowed to work in the UK and that will be a violation of her visa conditions.

The best option for her would be to find an employer in the UK who will be able to provide her with a job that will qualify for a Tier2 General visa. Please refer to informative article published in this section to know more about Tier2 visas. These visas are issued for an initial period of 3 years and can be further extended for a period so that they may be able to settle permanently after 5 years in the UK.

Jobs that are in shortage occupation list in the UK are easily available for migrants however only limited specified jobs are listed in this category.

Link to current Shortage Occupation link for your information:

Another option would be an Entrepreneur visa for people who wants to set up business in the UK. There is a minimum requirement of £200,000 available for investment in the UK to be eligible for this category visa. I am not sure whether this is something she would be interested.
