Dear Sir,
I am Permenent resident in U.K. I would like to know about the new rules for
taking citizenship with effect from Oct 2013. |
| Dear Sir,
From 28th October applicants will be required to meet english language competancy in order to apply for Indefinite leave to remain (PR)in the UK as well as for Naturalization as a British Citizen. Those who have completed KOL requirement(Knowledge of life in the UK) at the time of permanant residency by taking Life in the UK Test or by ESOL will not be able to apply for Citizenship without meeting the additional english language requirement. The new requirement is CEFR(Common European Framework Reference) B1 in English Speaking and Listening. In terms of IELTS this would be a score of 4. Exemptions will be available for applicants who have automatically met this requirement as a part of any previous applications or eligible qualifications. If you are already eligible for citizenship it would be worth considering to apply before 28 October 2013 to avoid the additional requirement.
