Dear

Welcome to deepika.com. As part of our continuing commitment to make Deepika's internet version more easily accessible for readers, we have made a pioneering move.

We have developed a truly user-friendly system by which your computer will automatically manage the Malayalam font so Deepika is ready for you to read wherever you are, whenever you want! No more need to download and then install the Malayalam font. Just enjoy reading.

However, to enjoy this feature, please ensure that you have a fairly recent browser - Netscape 4.03 or Internet Explorer 4.0 and above

If you are a new user and have a browser older than Netscape 4.03 or Internet Explorer 4.0, please download font from home page and continue browsing.

Since Deepika is now accessible to everyone easily, please spread the message to your friends and relatives so they also can experience Deepika online.

In the meanwhile, should you have any font problems, please check out our Frequently Asked Questions section.
Still, if you face any font problem, feel free to contact us at support@jacobsonsoft.com and we will be glad to be of assistance.

I get weird characters instead of Malayalam. How can I read Deepika?

  • Check your browser version. Browsers that can view Deepika without downloading fonts are: Netscape 4.03 or above(on any operating system except Linux), Internet Explorer 4.0 or above for Windows, AOL 4.0 or above for Windows and iCab for Macintosh.
  • Move to a non-Deepika page, then delete the browser cache(s).
In Netscape, goto Preferences in Edit menu and choose Cache in Advanced. Click on Clear Memory Cache and then Clear Disk Cache on the right hand side of screen to clear the cache.

In IE, goto Internet Options in Tool menu and click on the Clear History button to clear the cache.
  • Now, force the Deepika page to reload by holding down the Shift key while clicking the Reload or Refresh button.

If you have browser versions earlier to the above specified, please either download the latest version of your browser or download the font from Deepika to read the news in Malayalam.

How can I view Malayalam fonts on a Linux system?

Response

  • Please follow the following steps to install the fonts on your linux machine
  • Download the font from deepika.com
  • Find out the fonts directory for true type X-Window font server.
It may be running as either xfs or xfstt.
Some possible names for the font directoriesmay be: usr/share/fonts or usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts
  • Copy the fonts in the fonts directory. You will need to be Root / Superuser to do this.
    Reboot the system.
  • If you do not have the root permission you may try the following steps:
(This may not work for all versions of linux. You may have to contact the system administrator in that case.)
Create a directory for storing fonts in your login and suppose we call it 'fonts'.
That is the directory path will be $HOME/ fonts
  • Copy the font in the fonts directory.
  • Change current directory to $HOME/fonts.
      Run ttmkfdir > fonts.dir
      Run ttmkfdir > fonts.scale.
  • These will create 'fonts.scale' and 'fonts.dir' files in the directory.
Now run the following commands .
    /usr/X11R6/bin/xset fp+ $HOME/fonts
    /usr/X11R6/bin/xset fp rehash
      The fonts are installed.
  • In the Netscape/Mozilla window go to
edit->preferences-> fonts and define the encoding to be 'user-Defined'.
    Then select View->Character Set->User-Defined.
